Our Sumatra is termed ‘Mandheling’ for the same ethnic group as well as the mistaken identity (Mandailing) of the region where the coffee was grown. Tradition has made the term stick and now identifies coffees grown in the South Tapanuli region of Sumatra where the classic cup quality of top-notch Sumatrans are found. The roast is full-city to bring out the deep earth and spice flavors and hearty body while developing the subtle sweetness and acidity. This Sumatra is surprisingly bright among its counterparts in Indonesia and the clarity of acidity has a balancing effect on an otherwise bold cup.
