Sustainability
Sustainability is the ability to protect and enhance people's
quality of life by following practices that balance economic
prosperity with protection of the earth's natural systems. Our
policy of sourcing and presenting the world's great coffees
best shows our commitment to sustainability.
Great coffee comes from heirloom Arabica plants, grown in bio-diverse
settings on family farms and co-operatives. These growers are
committed to producing quality, not quantity, and we pay a premium
for their very best, Estate-quality beans. Many of these families
have farmed the land and cared for their trees for generations.
We respect this dedication, and seek to honor them by our commitment
to freshness and Small Batch Artisan Roasting™. When you purchase
Ancora coffee, whether conventionally produced or organic &
fair trade, you are purchasing the finest sustainably grown
coffee in the world.
Certified
Organic Coffees
Ancora Coffee is proud to be among the first USDA-certified
organic coffee roasters. Organic certification is a serious
commitment for farmers, as well as roasters. To qualify for
certification, farms must operate for at least three years without
using synthetic chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.
In organic agriculture, composting replaces chemical fertilizers,
and beneficial insects and hand weeding replace insecticides
and herbicides. Organic farms are inspected annually to ensure
that these and other requirements are met.
As an organically certified roaster, we are responsible for
ensuring our coffee's quality from bean seed to roast. Rigorous
inspections and detailed record audits guarantee the integrity
of our organic coffee production. Look for the USDA Organic
Seal on all our organic coffees!

Fair Trade Coffees
Fair trade coffees sell at a guaranteed minimum price to ensure
farmers receive prices adequate to cover costs and make a profit,
regardless of the price level of the commodity coffee market.
This helps growers improve their economic condition and provides
incentives to improve the quality of the coffee by earning additional
premiums - for Organic certification, higher quality, etc. Ancora
is proud to offer a wide selection of Fair Trade coffees that
are premium quality and also certified Organic. We work with
importers who buy direct from Fair Trade cooperatives.
At Ancora, we carefully selected fair trade coffees that offer
a great tasting cup, while making a real difference in the lives
of small, independent farmers around the world!
